Newcastle striker Alexander Isak netted his 15th goal of the season on Tuesday night, securing a 2-0 win against Arsenal in the Carabao Cup.
Newcastle United has reportedly been informed that Arsenal cannot afford Alexander Isak during the January transfer window.
Isak has been one of United's most reliable players since joining from Real Sociedad in August 2022. The striker has reached double digits in goals every season with the club, and this year is no exception.
As expected, this situation has fueled numerous rumors, particularly with Arsenal clearly in need of a center-forward. Mikel Arteta's team is currently lacking in the No. 9 role, which was evident on Tuesday night when Isak and Anthony Gordon helped Newcastle secure a two-goal lead after their Carabao Cup semi-final first leg.
According to the Daily Mail, Newcastle need not worry about Arsenal making an offer enticing enough to sell Isak. Although a price tag has yet to be set for the Swedish player, it is expected that his value would far exceed the £115 million Chelsea paid Brighton and Hove Albion for Moises Caicedo.
This amount is far beyond what Arsenal can afford, as owner Stan Kroenke is concentrating on player sales. Gabriel Jesus, Oleksandr Zinchenko, and Thomas Partey are reportedly expected to leave by the summer at the latest.
Nevertheless, it's not entirely positive for Newcastle fans. The report indicates that although Isak is dedicated to staying with the St James' Park club until 2028, the Magpies are unable to enhance his contract terms because of concerns related to Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).
It is acknowledged that Isak might have the opportunity to earn a higher salary elsewhere than at Newcastle. However, he has expressed his affection for the club warmly.
He recently told Prime Video in Sweden, "Competing at this level of football has always been a dream for me, and probably my biggest one. Playing in the Premier League for a club like Newcastle with such passionate fans is truly extraordinary."
