Highlight: The well known stadium once again made its influence felt in the competition as The Light Blues supporters roared their team to an exceptional win over one of of LA Liga’s giant clubs.

What happened: There was a flawless minute’s silence before the match to remember former Rangers defender “Ronnie MacKinnon” after his passing aged 83 years, while both sides also paid homage to the victims of the natural disasters that have struck Libya and Morocco.

Expanding into the competition as the evening wore on, the Gers were honored for their attacking attempt midway through the second period when Rangers finally got their rewards for their dominance moments later following a series of corners.

The away side could have equalized against the run of play five minutes later when Marc Bartra jumped highest from a corner and grazed a header just wide of the far post.

The Gers, huffing and puffing out their chests and withstood all that the Spanish side  had to throw at them in the dying embers of the match, steering in another famous evening at Ibrox stadium in the Europa League for the Teddy bears.

What they said:

Rabbi Matondo (Rangers FC Forward): “It was a good result for us, we needed that and the atmosphere was unbelievable and it was a good result overall and few points were taken.”

“Both teams played really well and I’m glad at the end we were victorious and  I felt like we really deserved it with the possibilities we produced and the compulsion we put in especially in the second period of the match, so yeah , I think it’s a fully justified win.”

Jack Butland (Rangers FC Goalkeeper): “Another really entertaining European night, today was really entertaining and delightful, and I think by far the best game we’ve played so far this season.”

“It’s a really positive performance from everybody and it’s a well deserved win and could have been more and in this group stage to start like that, is really positive for us and as for the Spanish side they had few chances and I don’t really think they troubled us that much, but for a side that has incredible talents, they have won the Champions league before and I think the lads played extremely well and defended really well.”
