Francesco Acerbi |
If Francesco Acerbi is found guilty of racist abuse, Inter will terminate their contract with the experienced centre-back. This decision was reportedly fueled by La Gazzetta dello Sport and has caused fury within the team towards Acerbi.
On Friday morning, the FIGC Prosecutor Giuseppe Chiné heard from a 36-year-old who could face a minimum of ten-game suspension if proven guilty of using racist language.
During Sunday's Serie A game at San Siro, the Napoli centre-back made an accusation that Acerbi had called him a derogatory term. On-field apologies were offered by Acerbi according to Juan Jesus; however, he denied these allegations as Nerazzurri defender on the following day.
During Friday's hearing with Chiné, Acerbi maintained that he never made any racist remarks towards Juan Jesus.
The report by Gazzetta suggests that Inter is not pleased with their defender, Acerbi. This comes as a result of both the incident and how he dealt with it publicly. It's reported that his agent Federico Pastorello recommended media attention which Inter wasn't happy about.
In the event that Acerbi is proven to have engaged in racism, it would displease the Nerazzurri even more since this kind of conduct contradicts with the club's fundamental values. Gazzetta has speculated that while a resolution on his destiny will not be decided until Chinè delivers his verdict next week, if he is found guilty, Inter Milan will terminate their association with him despite being 36 years old.
The Nerazzuri would have to figure out how to remove the defender since Acerbi's agreement expires in June of 2025.
