Kylian Mbappe |
According to Joan Laporta, the President of Barcelona, he is not envious of Kylian Mbappé's rumored transfer to Real Madrid. He also speculated that his addition could negatively impact the team dynamic in the dressing room.
There is an expectation that Mbappé will join Madrid once his contract with Paris Saint-Germain ends this summer. According to ESPN, the LaLiga champions are optimistic about reaching a deal with the player in near future.
Laporta acknowledged the potential hurdles in finalizing the deal, citing Mbappé's high salary demands and his preference for playing on the left like Vinícius Júnior.
Laporta denied any envy towards Madrid's pursuit of Mbappé when asked by Mundo Deportivo, saying "No, not at all."
I am uncertain whether they will sign him or not. We'll have to wait and find out. If they do, it may cause a problem for them as two players cannot occupy the same position at once. Thus, they would have to transfer one of their existing players."
Discussing the figures pertaining to the agreement is certain to disrupt team morale. It cannot be deemed as a benevolent act.
Following Dani Carvajal's assurance that the arrival of Mbappé will not prompt envy or any other issues at Madrid, Laporta made a statement.
Joining a forward lineup that includes Vinícius, Jude Bellingham, Rodrygo, Brahim Díaz and Joselu would be the World Cup champion. This impressive attacking unit has successfully propelled Madrid to lead LaLiga and advance into the quarterfinals of the Champions League.
Although Mbappé would join as a free agent, he would still demand a significant salary and signing fee. However, according to LaLiga President Javier Tebas, Madrid has the necessary funds to successfully acquire his services.
On Monday, Tebas stated that Madrid possesses adequate financial fair play space to acquire Mbappé alongside other players.
At Barça, the situation is completely contrasting as they've exceeded their LaLiga-imposed annual spending limit. Tebas has reiterated that they must release players before enlisting any fresh recruits this summer.
Despite facing economic difficulties, Laporta maintains a positive outlook on their chances to vie for LaLiga's top spot where they currently stand second behind Madrid. Moreover, with an upcoming quarterfinal match against Mbappé's PSG in the Champions League, he believes that his team can remain competitive at this high level.
Laporta expressed that "Our chances are high in both competitions and we have realistic aspirations of attaining success, not just a mere fantasy."
As one of the final eight teams in Europe, we face a daunting challenge against PSG. However, having home field advantage for the second leg gives us an edge that could prove valuable. The team is brimming with motivation and ready to give their all on the pitch.
Although LaLiga seems challenging, we are currently trailing Madrid by eight points with no signs of their downfall. However, surrendering is not an option for us.
