Christopher Nkunku joined Chelsea two years ago with high expectations, yet he has struggled to meet the hype in English football.

In June 2023, Chelsea acquired Christopher Nkunku from RB Leipzig for £52 million (BBC). However, the 27-year-old forward has struggled to fully impress fans with his performances. As a result, he is strongly rumored to be considering a transfer away this summer.

We've witnessed flashes of the Frenchman's individual talent, but his overall contribution has been disappointing. This may largely be due to difficulties in collaborating effectively with his creative teammate Cole Palmer on the same team.

Nkunku is anticipated to depart from Chelsea this summer after spending only two years at Stamford Bridge.

Paul Merson referred to Nkunku as an "intelligent" footballer, yet he struggles to secure sufficient playing time in his favored No.10 role due to Palmer's outstanding performance. In a different club, it wouldn't be surprising if he rediscovered the form that brought him success with Leipzig in Germany.

Chelsea further reduce Christopher Nkunku's price as discussions with Bayern Munich commence.

According to talkSPORT, Chelsea initially sought just over £40 million for Nkunku at the beginning of the summer transfer window. However, they now report that the club has adjusted their asking price and might consider selling him for less than that amount.

The report mentions that Bayern Munich, the Bundesliga champions, have initiated discussions with Chelsea regarding a potential deal to acquire Nkunku.

It seems that the German giants are leaning towards arranging a loan deal with an option to buy. However, a permanent transfer remains possible due to the lowered asking price. Bayern's sports director Max Eberl is particularly impressed by Nkunku’s versatility which adds intrigue to whether he will eventually join them at Allianz Arena.

This afternoon, journalist Fabrizio Romano mentioned on X that a transfer for Nkunku to Bayern might be in the works.

From Chelsea's point of view, they will have to classify this transfer as a failure, despite having numerous recent successes in the market.

Enzo Maresca's comments on Christopher Nkunku

Amidst rumors about his future, Nkunku played a key role in Chelsea’s squad that clinched the Club World Cup this summer, participating in six out of the seven tournament matches.

During the competition, Maresca demonstrated significant support for Nkunku. The Blues' head coach stated: "We believe Christo can assist us now and remain with us into next season."

Although transfer rumors suggest Nkunku may leave before the summer window closes, there will be no hard feelings towards him. The unexpected rise of Palmer has unfortunately cast a shadow on his potential move.
